Conservatorships & Guardianships
What is a Conservatorship?
A conservatorship is a legal process in which a court of law appoints an individual or entity to manage the affairs of an individual who is no longer capable of doing so themselves. Most often, conservatorships involve individuals who suffer from cognitive disabilities due to age, such as dementia and Alzheimer's.
When is a Conservatorship Neccesary?
A conservatorship becomes necessary when an individual is unable to manage their medical and financial affairs or assets independently due to incapacity or disability, particularly if they haven't designated a power of attorney beforehand. In such cases, a court may appoint a conservator to ensure proper management and protection of the individual's financial interests.
